Your school has enough money to purchase either computers for students or books for the library. Which should your school choose to buy — computers or books? Use specific reasons and examples to support your recommendation.
Due to the limited resources, most schools may face the dilemma of how school budge should be divided into different programs. When it comes to whether to purchase either computers or books for the library, the pros and cons are discussed below.
One of the benefits of buying books is that more books can be bought than the number of computers with the same amount of money. What’s more, the space they take up is much less than that of computers. In this increasingly crowded campus, this concern should not be ignored. Another reason why buying books should be the priority is that they have already been cautiously selected before making purchases. Therefore, the chosen copies are likely to be more suitable and professional for the needs of students. However, the content of the book is fixed; it cannot be updated like a computer.
On the other hand, purchasing computers seems a sensible choice, too. First of all, a computer allows students to download certain books. Furthermore, the knowledge of computers is increasingly significant in today’s rapidly changing society. Without this skill, a graduate may find it hard to perform well in the workplace or even apply for a job.
In view of the necessity of computer proficiency these days, it seems that schools should make every effort to make students equipped with the professional skills. Finally, a computer allows students to use a number of software tools that are designed for learning. While there are a number of profits that a computer can offer, some people concern that sitting in front of a computer for too much time does harm to students’ eyesight.
Realizing the advantages of buying either books or computers, I strongly believe that a school should spend its money on purchasing computers for students to use rather than more library books.
